Dreams are often built on the long spidery legs of a beautiful colt, but they don’t always come true. A product of 50 years of breeding decisions, spanning several continents, the expectations for a very large, grey, gangly colt, foaled in 2015 with extreme type were great.

Atticus ENB began fulfilling those dreams from his very first foal crop.

When Michael was looking for mares to breed to El Nabila B, one of his farms of interest was Om El Arabians in Santa Ynez, California. With strong Egyptian lines through El Nabila B’s dam, blending perfectly with his Russian and Polish lines from Kubinec, Mike thought adding some additional consistently proven, blended Egyptian lines could produce something special.

Om El’s visionary program, led by Sigi Siller, had for decades produced a very consistent type of Arabian horse. Founded on the straight Spanish mare Estopa, Sigi started introducing Egyptian blood through the Morafic son, Shaker Al Masri. This proved to be a “golden cross” that would change the Arabian breeding industry worldwide. One of the most outstanding sons of that cross was El Shaklan.

When Shaker Al Masri was lost prematurely, Sigi intensified his bloodline by breeding El Shaklan back to Estopa, laying the path for what would become a very consistent producing line of horses beginning with Sandik El Shaklan who quickly passed on his type and quality to his offspring and gained global value as a breeding stallion.

Meanwhile, Estopa’s last foal, Om El Beneera (x Sharem Al Sheikh by El Shaklan), was produced when Estopa was 27 years old . With her extreme type and huge eyes, she caught the attention of all who saw her. Om El Beneera’s first foal was Om El Benedict (x Sanadik El Shaklan), who went on to be an extraordinary producer. Om El bred a full sister, Om El Benedine, who would become an important part of the Psynergy story.

Recognizing the important role the Om El bloodlines would have crossed with El Nabila B, Michael tried hard to produce a female for his breeding program with Om El Benedine. A filly was produced, but lost early on, so Michael continued trying to breed a female from that cross. When a grey colt was born at Om El in 2015, Michael got a call from Sigi. She informed Mike that this colt, while not the filly he wanted, was very, very special. While Sigi passed away before seeing her prophecy fulfilled, it was clear that indeed, this colt was special.

One consistent feature of the Om El bloodlines is that they take time to mature. But when they are mature, their beauty intensifies every year as they get older. While Atticus was a beautiful foal, he was also a very large boy, and his growth path was long and gawky. So he wasn’t shown as a young horse and was put out to grow up and grow into himself. When Michael sent him to Sandro Pinha at Arabians International for show conditioning at the age of three, Sandro wasn’t sure he was ready to be shown. However, just a few short months from coming out of pasture, Atticus ENB ended up being named Arabian Breeders World Cup Silver Amateur Champion Stallion.

Just six months after that show, Atticus was shown at the US National Championships where he was awarded US Reserve National Champion Futurity Stallion at only his second show and then tied for Canadian National Champion Stallion. Atticus ENB went on in 2021 to win Arabian Breeders World Cup Supreme Bronze Champion Senior Stallion and Scottsdale International Champion Silver Champion Senior Stallion.

What makes a stallion great depends more on how he can produce than anything else, and Atticus didn’t breed his first mares for Psynergy until he was 4 years old. Out of his first foal crop of four fillies, came Alesia ENB (x Aliyah Vision PCF), owned by Murray and Shirley Poppelwell, who went on to be crowned Scottsdale Champion Senior Mare as a three-year-old.

Other breeders took note, including breeders in Poland, the Middle East, Europe, South America, Australia and New Zealand.

While most of Atticus’s offspring are young, one notable breeder, Manuel Durini, of MD Arabians based in Ecuador, has a promising Atticus ENB son they will start breeding in the coming year. Another young, striking , look-alike son of Atticus, RD Atlantis (x Giana Leah PCF) was purchased by Kalliste Arabians in France.

Due to the demand for breedings in Europe to Atticus ENB, he was leased in 2023 to Italy to stand at stud. Mares were bred both in Europe and the Middle East and Psynergy is looking forward to the results. Meanwhile, within their own program are a number of promising young fillies and colts who will be making their show debut in the coming years.

Sadly, Atticus became ill while in Europe and never made it home to Psynergy. As a young stallion with a very bright future as a breeding stallion, Atticus was to be the next step in the Psynergy program. While there is frozen semen banked from Atticus, his book is now closed. It will be up to his offspring throughout the world and those currently growing up in the Psynergy program to carry on his legacy.

Atticus ENB appears to be one of those rare stallions, like his sire *El Nabila B, who produce outstanding males as well as females. A great example is the colt RD Atlantis (x Giana Leah PCF )bred by Rae Dawn Arabians and owned by Kalliste Arabians in France. RD Atlantis is an extremely typey stallion who may become the heir to Atticus in Europe.

Producing offspring with an abundance of type is a hallmark of the Atticus progeny. But producing beautiful horses that are also functional and trainable is a cornerstone of the Psynergy philosophy. Atticus’s movement was one of his defining characteristics, his electric and powerful trot, with true balance and engagement excited spectators every time he was shown. To that end, there are several Atticus offspring in training with Jonathan Ramsay at Stachowski, Inc., and there is a lot of excitement about their early stages of training. One of the most look-alike sons of Atticus is Janus ENB out of Jasminia AS).

A very large, very typey, very big moving colt, Janus ENB has a bright future as both a halter horse and performance star. He is entered in the 2025 US National Champion Colt Futurity but could also be competing in performance as well, proving that the offspring from Atticus are more than just a pretty face!

Atticus was six years old before his first foals started grabbing people’s attention. The attention spanned the globe, with foals being produced in New Zealand, Australia, South America, Europe and the Middle East. Due to demand for his genetics in Europe, Atticus was leased to Italy in 2023. However, the story of this young stallion’s rise to glory was cut short after 18 months in Europe when he became ill and after a valiant fight for his life, lost the battle.

Atticus’ book is now closed, and it will be up to his promising young horses around the world to carry on his legacy.
